Nominees announced for first Szymborska prize
The shortlist for the first Wisława Szymborska Poetry Prize has been announced, with five finalists hoping to receive Poland’s most valuable literary award.
Justyna Bargielska (Bach for my Baby, Biuro Literackie), Krystyna Dąbrowska (Białe Krzesła, WBP/CAK), Łukasz Jarosz (Pełna Krew, Znak), Krzysztof Karasek (Dziennik Rozbitka, Instytut Mikołowski) and Jan Polkowski (Głosy, Biblioteka Toposu) are in the running for the 200,000zł prize, and the winner will be announced on November 16.
Nobel prize winner Szymborska left instructions for a foundation to help writers, in her will. The announcement was made on May 25, by Ms Szymborska’s former secretary Michał Rusinek.
